Lameness Scoring and Investigation
Along with fertility and mastitis, lameness is one of the big three most costly diseases on the farm.
A lame cow eats less, produces less milk and takes longer to conceive all incurring extra costs.
Prevention is better than cure and Park Vets are experienced at working with you to help reduce lameness in your herd.
To aid monitoring of herd lameness levels we suggest regular locomotion scoring, which involves observing lameness of the entire herd to give the percentage of lame cows.
We then set benchmarks for improvement and assess the effectiveness of treatment and management changes. This is becoming mandatory for many dairies.
This management system helps us work out programmes and monitors the success of treatments.
